If you cancel after booking, RVShare keeps a flat $99 processing fee. It comes out of your refund no matter what, whether you're owed the full amount back or just part of it. So the refund tier you book under decides how much you start with before that $99 is deducted. RVShare uses three owner-selected tiers:

• Flexible: Full refund minus service and screening fees 30+ days out; 50% back within 30 days.

• Standard: Full refund 30+ days out; 50% from 14 to 29 days; nothing within 14 days.

• Strict: Full refund 30+ days out; nothing inside 30 days.

One exception works in your favor. If the owner cancels for any reason, you get a full refund minus the screening fee.

RVShare has no single code that works for everyone. But verified groups can earn ongoing cash back through ID.me. After verification, you'll get up to 4% back as active military, a veteran, a nurse, a first responder, a teacher, or government or medical staff. It stacks on whatever rate you've already found. Some individual owners also post their own listing discounts. For example, we've seen discounts of up to 25% for veterans. Our advice is to always scan listings and message owners to negotiate.

Add 25% to 35% to any nightly rate to get closer to what you'll really pay. The service fee comes first. It's a percentage of your total reservation cost rather than a flat amount, so it scales with the trip. From there, a handful of owner-set fees are what usually catch renters off guard.

• Mileage: Each listing includes a set number of free miles, then charges for every mile over that. Overage commonly runs about $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, and some owners sell an unlimited plan for $50 to $100 upfront. Opt for this for long trips.

• Generator: RVs with generators offer a few free hours, then bill by the hour after that. The hourly rate is the owner's call, so check the listing before you run the AC all night.

• Deposit or waiver: Most owners hold a refundable security deposit. Many also let you swap it for a non-refundable Security Deposit Waiver, $99 for most RV classes or $149 for Class A.

• Others: Cleaning runs roughly $75 to $200, pet fees $25 to $50, and delivery costs about $1 to $3 per mile each way. Owners set these, so treat the numbers as a guide.

That's why the lowest nightly rate often isn't the cheapest trip. A listing with generous miles and a clear deposit usually beats a cheap base rate with stingy overage.
