Trading in an old phone can cut hundreds off a new one, but only when you follow their guidelines. Here's how it works:

1. Buy a new phone on an installment plan, or upgrade a line with a qualifying plan.

2. Trade in an eligible device and mail it for evaluation.

3. Credits apply to your monthly bill over 36 months, not as an upfront discount.

Phones valued at $180 or more unlock the top trade-in credits. Before sending yours in, check resale prices on Swappa or Facebook Marketplace, where used iPhones often sell for $100 to $300 more than carrier trade-in value. Trade-ins make the most sense for phones that are cracked, very old, or hard to sell privately.

Both you and your friend get bill credits, worth up to $50 off when you refer them to AT&T Fiber. But they must specifically use your referral link for the both of you to get a discount.
