Meet your expert

Learning about your family is a special journey, and I'm here to make it affordable. I'm Simon, and I use my years of experience as a Coupons.com editor to get you every possible saving for Ancestry.com. I’ve seen DNA kits for just $29 [11.20.2025-11.26.2025], many 50% off membership sales, and other great offers that might have flown under your radar.

About Ancestry.com

We have been helping people save while discovering their roots since spring 2024 through our partnership with Ancestry. The 14-day 2026 Father's Day promo, for instance, for 65% off AncestryDNA, was one of these.

Another sale, at the end of July 2026, saw 40% off a 6-month Ancestry membership. Then there was the Family & Friends sale that happened back in March 2026, with up to 50% off a family history membership. Our offers are sourced directly from the retailer.

All you need to know about gifts and saving on them

To get an Ancestry gift membership, choose a plan, add it to the cart, and enter the recipient’s info, a message, and a delivery date. Ancestry will email the access code. The start date must then be within 90 days of purchase.

Annual plans save money compared to month-to-month billing. The 12‑month pricing in August 2026 was $229 for U.S. Discovery, which saves 23%; $319 for World Explorer, saving 30%; and $479 for All Access, saving 30%.

Gift memberships don’t combine with or extend an active subscription. For an existing account, cancel the subscription, wait for it to expire completely, and click the email access code to redeem the gift. The saved family tree will stay intact on the account.

It won't auto-renew, so Ancestry won't go into another billing cycle.

Use the Ancestry app without losing money

The important difference between the Ancestry website and app is that multi-month purchases are more expensive on the app. That's because Apple and Google Play app stores take a commission on in-app payments. To cover this cost, the app doesn't offer multi-month discounts. You just get multiples of the the single-month rate. The website, free from such outside constraints, instead shows the buy more, save more discount rate Ancestry offers.

For example, the website vs. app for the "All Access" package:

A 6-month package on the website costs $269, while paying for six consecutive months at $59.99 costs $359.94. You would pay $90.94 more in the app.

But you lose nothing when buying standard single months of U.S. Discovery, World Explorer, or All Access. You'll pay $24.99, $39.99, and $59.99, respectively, at both the website and app. The same goes for a "Just this record" single-document purchase for $1.99. And DNA results, ethnicity percentages, tree building, and messaging relatives all remain free.

So, to save money, buy packages on the website to get the cheaper, multi-month rate. Then, for ease of use, open up the app, log in to your account, and enjoy your package with all its features available on your phone.

Try AncestryClassroom for Educators

AncestryClassroom opens up free access to real historical records for teachers working with K–12 students in the U.S. It’s a simple way to make lessons more engaging by using authentic documents and personal stories.

Instead of just reading from a textbook, students get to connect with the past through hands-on research. This no-cost program supports learning across subjects like history and social studies, helping classrooms dive deeper into American heritage without extra budget concerns.

Start exploring with a free Ancestry trial

Ancestry offers a 14-day free trial for new users, giving full access to family trees, historical documents, and more without paying upfront. You can explore the site’s features to decide if it fits your research needs.

After the trial, choosing a six-month plan can save you up to 20% compared to paying monthly. This longer plan allows you time to dive deeper without monthly constraints.

To make the most of your free trial when not intending to renew it, cancel two days before the trial is due to end. Waiting any longer means you will be billed the full price of the tier you have selected.

How to use an Ancestry coupon

You can use a coupon on the website, but not on the app, where there is no coupon field. Apple or Google would take a 15% to 30% cut of the already discounted price.

Follow these steps on the website:

  1. Log in or create your Ancestry account.

  2. Choose the subscription plan or DNA kit that fits your needs.

  3. Go to checkout and click the “Have a Coupon?” link.

  4. Use your coupon in the box and select “Redeem.”

  5. Your discount will be applied instantly to your order total.

Smart saving tips at Ancestry

Share your discoveries with family to split costs

Sharing an Ancestry subscription with family members makes exploring your heritage more affordable. Pooling resources means you can access more features or order multiple kits without each person paying full price.

With the $269 All Access plan, you can invite up to 4 family members to create their own separate logins for free. There is no toggling between kits, and you gain the advantage of private messaging.
