Check cancelation terms before you book
Hotels.com has a cancelation policy that varies depending on the property you book with. Some properties are completely nonrefundable. Others are refundable for a short window of time, for an added fee. For example, one hotel we looked at was fully refundable with a $0 fee for three days after booking. That same listing included a $19 fee with a nine-day refund window and a $40 fee with a thirteen-day refund window. Ultimately the cancelation policy depends on the specific property you're looking at.
Even if a property has refundable options, non-refundable bookings are cheaper. If you're confident that your plans won't change, a non-refundable booking is the best option. If you want more flexibility, just know that refund windows are often under two weeks after booking. They'll also have an added fee. It's best to carefully check the policy for every booking you're considering.
