USPS is the US government's mail and package carrier, and the only one that delivers to every US address, including PO Boxes and APO and FPO military addresses. It also runs the Postal Store for stamps and shipping supplies.
For customer service, call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. Written questions go through the Email Us form on the USPS Help site, and delivery updates can be pulled by texting a tracking number to 28777 (2USPS).

USPS adds a temporary holiday surcharge to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select every year. In recent seasons, the window has run from early October through mid-January, with exact dates posted through the USPS newsroom in August. First-Class Mail letters, Forever stamps, and Media Mail are not part of it.
How much the surcharge adds depends on weight and distance. A small package under 3 lbs going close by has run an extra $0.30 to $0.50, while a heavy Priority Mail box to a far zone has added $3 to $7, and Priority Mail Express in the same long-distance lane has climbed $13 to $16 on the heaviest shipments. Casual holiday mailers barely see the difference, but Etsy sellers moving heavy cross-country orders take the biggest hit.
Here is how different shippers can work around it.
Holiday gift-mailers can send non-urgent gifts by late September or hold them until after the mid-January end date, dodging the surcharge on both sides.
Etsy, eBay, and Poshmark sellers can rebuild listing prices before the season starts to absorb the surcharge, or shift light items to First-Class Mail envelopes where the format allows.
Students mailing books home stay on Media Mail and pay the same rate all season.
Unlike other carriers that escalate fees during "peak of peak" weeks in December, USPS charges one flat surcharge from start to finish. That means the only real savings play is shipping before the window opens or after it closes.
USPS rarely issues percentage-off coupon codes. The ones that do exist are almost always for the Postal Store, covering stamps, philatelic items, and shipping supplies rather than postage on packages. For a Postal Store code, the process runs from cart to confirmation:
Add stamps, supplies, or gifts to the cart and click Check Out.
Enter contact and shipping details, or sign in to a USPS account. Both paths accept a code.
Locate the Order Summary panel and find the Coupon Code field directly below the subtotal, with an Apply Coupon link underneath.
Paste the code and click Apply Coupon.
Review the total and click Check Out Now to finish payment.
Shipping and handling only calculate after the shipping address is entered, so the final total appears at that step. On a phone, the Order Summary panel may collapse below the address form to save space, so scroll past the shipping fields to reach the Coupon Code field.
A few rules apply to any Postal Store code. USPS accepts one coupon per order, so a stamp promo will not stack with an existing store discount. Codes usually apply to full-price items only, so clearance stamps and pre-discounted supplies may not take an extra discount. When a code will not go through, check for extra spaces from copying and confirm the promotion has not expired.
For postage on packages, no coupon code exists. Click-N-Ship automatically applies commercial base pricing on Priority Mail and Ground Advantage labels at checkout, which is where the actual savings on shipping live. Any offer claiming to produce a working "USPS shipping discount code" for individual senders is almost always misdirection.
