Products We Love: Paula's Choice Reviews

Our friends over at Paula’s Choice sent over some of their products for us to try, and we really put them to the test. Each of us used the products for 2 weeks and we loved the results.

Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant$23
NameAgeSkin TypeBeauty Philosophy

skin-perfecting2The Claims:

  • Effective for: Acne Breakouts, Anti-Aging, Blackheads, Enlarged Pores, Keratosis Pilaris, Redness, Rosacea, Wrinkles
  • Liquid formula exfoliates to reveal smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin
  • Calms redness and builds collagen
  • Gentle yet still effective on the most stubborn acne and blackheads
  • Unclogs and diminishes enlarged pores
  • Creates radiant, clear, even-toned skin
  • Anti-inflammatory ingredients reduce signs of rosacea

The Results:

After two weeks of twice-daily use, my pores did seem smaller and my skin never felt dull. I also saw improvement in the redness on my chin and enjoyed how soothing the liquid was after harsher products.

What I liked:

This is an exfoliant, but it doesn’t act like any other exfoliant I have ever used. The liquid isn’t at all harsh, nor does it cause redness or stinging. I use a strong anti-acne regimen that leaves my skin dry and flaky; following those products, this soothed my irritated skin on contact. I looked forward to putting it on each night, and I did notice was skin was a little duller if skipped this step in the morning.

What I disliked:

I’m rather impatient and like to see immediate and dramatic results, which this product did not deliver in terms of improving acne. The results were subtle, but still noticeable after the first week.

Would I repurchase:

Yes. I liked that this was a soothing, gentle exfoliating alternative to the harsh scrubs and brushes you see on the market, and the $23 bottle will last for a while, so the price is right.

RESIST Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30$27
NameAgeSkin TypeBeauty Philosophy

resist-super-lightThe Claims:

  • Effective for: Anti-Aging, Brown Spots, Enlarged Pores, Extra Sensitive Skin, Redness, Rosacea, Wrinkles
  • Provides gentle, mineral-based broad-spectrum sun protection
  • Complexion-enhancing tint means no telltale white cast
  • Antioxidant-rich formula stimulates collagen production
  • Shields skin from wrinkles and brown spots
  • Silky lotion leaves a soft matte finish
  • Works beautifully under makeup—no need for foundation primer
  • Excellent for use around the eyes – will not sting

The Results:

I view sunscreen as skin insurance. So while I didn’t see any immediate results, I did like the consistency and feel of this lotion to use it nonstop for two weeks. It also does wear well under makeup – both mineral & cream, just as promised.

What I like

This lotion is light, has a very slight tint, and did a great job keeping my skin matte. I used it for two weeks and I did not break out. On a good skin day, I could probably get away with this in lieu of my more tinted BB cream. Because I have combo skin, I found that it was a bit drying around my cheeks and nose. The upside, however, is that it didn’t leave me oily. The minor discomfort is worth the fact that this lotion is very light, paraben-free, and did not leave a white-cast (very important for selfies).

What I dislike

The one puzzling thing is the tint. It’s not dark enough to cover anything on my light with yellow undertones skin. Without it, I could easily see this product also marketed to men as one of the biggest complaints I hear from guys is that a lot of the SPF products out there are too shiny or irritating to the eyes. It’s not enough to bother me so either up the color so that it’s a true tinted moisturizer or leave it out so my macho boyfriend can wear it.

Would I repurchase

Absolutely – $27 is a great price.

This product is dispensed via a dropper in the bottle, so you can easily control the amount and minimize waste. I love that it mixes with either moisturizer or serum, as I only use serum every other day. It is very light and leaves no residue and no angry skin irritation.

What I dislike

Nothing. Truly love this product and found it much more effective than other Vitamin C boosters I have tried in the past.

Would I repurchase

Absolutely – it is worth every penny. Even at $48, it is far less expensive with better results than other premium brand options.
