  • The main ingredient in most facial sprays is water, but that doesn’t stop manufacturers from charging $20+ for them. To make your own, fill a mister bottle with water and add cucumber strips or mint leaves to give your face a rejuvenating spritz.
  • Greek yogurt is excellent for breakfast and for your next facial. Slather your face with cold, plain Greek yogurt. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then rinse off for clean, nourished skin. Some people add honey as an antibacterial to soothe and heal problem areas, but it’s best to check with a dermatologist first.
  • Upgrade at home pedicures with a DIY foot soak. Add ½ cup Epsom salt to a large bowl of warm water and soak feet for about 20 minutes. Not only can this relax and alleviate aching feet, but it also makes it easier to remove calluses with a pumice stone.
  • Create your own exfoliating body scrub. Use ½ cup olive oil as a base and combine it with 1 cup of an exfoliant like salt or sugar. Finer granules work better especially for sensitive skin, brown sugar is a good candidate.
  • Grocery stores are stocked with avocados right now, so take advantage of the sales with a DIY deep conditioner. Mash half an avocado with an egg yolk and one teaspoon of olive oil. Coat your hair with the mixture and cover it with a plastic cap for 10 minutes. Then rinse and shampoo. (Look in the “past the ripe stage” clearance section to save money).

Final tip: Makeup brushes can be a breeding ground for bacteria, yet many of us forget to wash them. Make your own brush cleaner by combining warm water with a dash of hand soap and vinegar.
