How To: Dark Chocolate Kale Brownies

In honor of Earth Day, let’s see if we can eat a little greener with some yummy kale brownies!

Does your family turn up their nose at the thought of kale? If you’re looking for a way to get your family eating healthier without a battle, then try baking some dark chocolate kale brownies that are too good to pass up. Your family will never taste the healthy serving of kale baked inside, especially when topped off with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

brownie mixFor this recipe, the ingredients you’ll need are 1 cup kale, 1 brownie mix, 1/3 cup canola oil, 1/3 cup water, 2 eggs.

Start with one Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Brownie mix. Then grab a big handful of kale and begin removing the leaves from the thick stem.

kale leavesSteam the kale for five minutes. Place the kale in a blender or food processor and add the required oil listed on the brownie mix. The oil creates a smooth puree. Blend until the puree is formed. This is the key to successfully hiding the kale in the brownies.

kale brownie pureePlace the brownie mix, kale puree, eggs and water in a bowl or standing mixer. Watch the kale disappear into the chocolate batter.

baking panPour into a prepared 8×8 pan and bake for 25-28 minutes, or until the fork comes out clean. If there are two options for baking times choose the fudgy baking time.
