8 Worthy Nonprofits to Support for Black History Month

This Black History Month, Coupons.com encourages you to support a Black-led, Black-benefitting organization, allowing you to help amplify the Black Community’s resilience and strength. The investment and time give power back to the community and builds the foundation for a better, stronger future.

Consider donating savings you’ve accrued through coupons or our cash back offers. These organizations are uniquely positioned to best meet the specific needs within the Black community, while providing valuable resources to those they serve. They enrich and strengthen their communities, providing lasting outcomes for both current and future generations.

Although not exhaustive, we’ve put together a list of a variety of organizations to consider donating to, ranging from focus areas of African American History to Black-Trans empowerment.

  • ASALH: The mission of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH®) is to promote, research, preserve, interpret, and disseminate information about Black life, history, and culture to the global community.
  • Equal Justice Initiative: The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.
  • Sentencing Project: The Sentencing Project works for a fair and effective U.S. criminal justice system by producing groundbreaking research to promote reforms in sentencing policy, address unjust racial disparities and practices, and to advocate for alternatives to incarceration.
  • ACLU: For nearly 100 years, the ACLU has been our nation’s guardian of liberty, working in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and the laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country.
  • NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund: America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 80 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
  • National Urban League: To help African Americans and others in underserved communities achieve their highest true social parity, economic self- reliance, power, and civil rights. The League promotes economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health, and quality of life.
  • The Southern Poverty Law Center: The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people.
  • Lavender Rights Project: Lavender Rights Project (LRP) advances a more just and equitable society by providing low-cost civil legal services and community programming centered in values of social justice for trans and queer low-income people and other marginalized communities.

Supporting diversity is essential to fostering a healthy and equitable corporate landscape. To further show our support, Coupons.com has also launched an internal campaign featuring the above organizations. The campaign is running throughout the entirety of Black History Month and employees are encouraged to utilize matching gift donations to support one or more of these charities.
