About Under Armour
Under Armour is an American retailer of sporting apparel and accessories - the brainchild of 23 year old University of Maryland athlete Kevin Plank. The athlete was frustrated by having to change sweat-soaked clothes during his football workouts and decided to come up with a product that would keep him dry during all the strenuous activity.
Plank developed his product and began selling it out of the trunk of his car for the first year, making $17,000 in sales. A year later, in 1997, Plank landed his first major order, totally $100,000. In 1999, Plank was contracted by Warner Brothers to outfit characters in upcoming movies. By 2000, Under Armour was the official outfitter of the NFL – but the brand didn't even have a real store yet!
It wasn't until 2007 that Under Armour opened its very first brick and mortar store in Annapolis, Maryland. The website, however, had been online since the later 1990s. It may seem weird that Plank would choose a British spelling for an American company, but the reason for this is that the URL for Under Armor wasn't available at the time – so he opted for the British spelling Armour instead.
Today, Under Armour has many brick and mortar locations worldwide and is also available at more than 25,000 retailers. Under Armour has an employee base of just under 8,000 and an annual revenue approaching $2 billion. Their corporate headquarters is located in Baltimore, Maryland – with their products being manufactured in Asia, Central and South America and Mexico. Some of Under Armour's specialty or custom products are produced in an on-site facility located in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The brand is available at a wide range of sports and apparel retailers. Under Armour Products
Under Armour is made from a moisture-wicking synthetic material. How Under Armour works is that the special material pulls sweat away from the body to keep you cool and dry while wearing. If you're wondering which Under Armour keeps you warm or which Under Armour keeps you the warmest, the answer is the ColdGear products. They come in both men’s and women's sizes and designs and they can be found wherever Under Armour is sold. Under Armour sizes are roughly the same as most other American brands of clothing. For example, a youth small Under Armour size is equal to a youth size 8 (boys and girls) in American Standard sizes while a youth medium Under Armour size is equal to a youth size 10 (boys and girls) in American Standard sizes.
