Since we’re celebrating moms the entire month of May, we figured we should include some of the moms that you see just about every day on TV. But with so many options to choose from, it was difficult to narrow it down. Read on to see who made our list of the top 10 TV moms of all time.
10. Marge Simpson – The Simpsons
Marge Simpson is a devoted mother who always makes time for her kids. Give this lady credit for corralling the behaviors of her wild son and her immature husband. And she’s been doing it for decades now. It’s like her kids don’t age!
9. Martha Kent – Smallville
Being a mom is already tough, but imagine how much harder it must be when your son is Superman? Martha Kent keeps her superhero son grounded and teaches him values that we’re sure he’ll appreciate no matter what planet he’s on. Talk about a Superhero Mom!
8. Claire Dunphy – Modern Family
Claire Dunphy is great at relating to her three children, while still being able to manage the house on a day-to-day basis. Whether she’s working outside of the home or carpooling her kids around, she does it with a high energy that rivals many other moms.
7. Carmela Soprano – The Sopranos
When you live in the world of the mob, it’s good to have someone as solid as Carmela Soprano in your corner. This mob wife is the ideal mixture of hard and soft, as she’d scold you when you were doing wrong while still making sure you never went hungry.
6. Roseanne Conner – Roseanne
For about 10 years, Roseanne Conner showed how to mother her three kids, their significant others, her sister and her husband, even if she was very unconventional. Sure, she was a bit crass, but she knew when it was time to joke around and when it was time to drop the hammer.
5. Florida Evans – Good Times
No matter the hardship, Florida Evans always put on a brave face. She was her family’s rock and she played the role to a T. Her firm grasp on reality allowed her to make the safety and success of her children her top priority, and who can’t get behind that?
4. Lorelai Gilmore – Gilmore Girls
Who doesn’t want to have Lorelei Gilmore as their mom? She proves that you can be a good mother to your child while also having a solid friendship. She’s the easiest person to talk to and she always brings the funny. Can we adopt her as our second mom?
3. Carol Brady – The Brady Bunch
Because Carol Brady was a stay-at-home mom, you might forget all the cookie jars she had her hands in. She spent time freelance writing, being a member of the PTA, and even sculpted! And let’s not forget that she was doing this while bringing up three very lovely girls before becoming an extended family.
2. Clair Huxtable – The Cosby Show
I really don’t know how this woman managed to have five children, in which four are girls, and still be a full-time attorney overseeing powerful cases. She really is the ultimate multitasking mom (our own Elasti-Girl) and we love her for it. Plus, she never had a hair out of place!
1. Sophia Petrillo – The Golden Girls
At first you might look at Sophia Petrillo and think she’s a sweet, little old lady. But you’d be a fool to put a label on this golden girl. She proved that she wasn’t afraid to mother you no matter how old you were–or whether or not you were her daughter. So to Sophia we say, thank you for being a friend–and a great mom!
