September is all about that back-to-school groove and officially saying goodbye to summer. Retailers are right there with you. In fact, they’ve been trying to get rid of summer merchandise since last month, and now it’s really got to go. That means even lower prices for you.
Countertop appliances: Now’s the time to upgrade your cooking gadgets. It’s the end of wedding season and new models will hit shelves before the holidays, so many manufacturers are discounting small appliances. Fun fact, the number one item on wedding registries is a stand mixer. Save 20% off stand mixer attachments at KitchenAid.
Grills: Labor Day may mark the official end of grilling season, but there’s no reason to quit the grill just yet. The majority of grill owners (62%) use their grills year-round, according to the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association. So, although grills are in the summer clearance, there’s no reason you can’t put this bargain purchase to immediate use.
Luggage: There’s a lull in travel right now, which means luggage sales need a boost. Look for end-of-summer clearance sales and upgrade to lightweight luggage and functional carry-ons so you can avoid increasing luggage fees. Baggage fee netted nearly $3.5 billion last year, a huge increase from the $464 million it was just five years prior, according to the Department of Transportation.
Coffee: Need a double espresso to kick-off the school year? This month, find discounts on home brewers, single serve cups and more. Look for coffee shops offering freebies and discounts on September 29 for National Coffee Day.
Recreational gear: Bikes, water skis and any gear that requires a sunny day is probably on sale, especially if it belongs in a lake or ocean. You may also want to check secondhand sporting goods stores, which may be anxious to move this merchandise and willing to negotiate with you on a price for these big-ticket items.
Final tip: In honor of National Coupon Month, it seems only right to stock up on cereal. It’s one of the most popular coupon categories and there’s no shortage of cereal deals this month as it is an essential to any back-to-school grocery list.
