Materials:

  • 1 lemon
  • 2 small jars (one for the essential oil, one for the air freshener)
  • Cold pressed olive oil
  • 4 packages of gelatin
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • Yellow food coloring (optional)

lemon air

Instructions:

First, you need to make lemon essential oil (you could also purchase it). To do so, grate the entire outside of one lemon, and place the gratings in a small glass jar. Fill the rest of the jar with olive oil, about half a cup should do it. Put on the lid, and leave the jar in an area that gets direct sunlight for a few days, shaking it several times a day.

To make the gel, bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan and stir in the gelatin. Add about 20 drops of the essential oil (about a teaspoon), then stir in the salt until dissolved. If you’d like a more yellowy colored gel, stir in a couple drops of food coloring. Pour the mixture into a glass jar and allow to set. Leave it on a table or shelf with the top off and let the citrus scent perfume the room.
