For many, procrastination is as essential to the holiday season as egg nog and jingle bells. If you still have some shopping to do, join the club—and don’t panic! You’re not alone, and we have strategies to ensure those presents are wrapped and ready in plenty of time.
Here are some of your BFFs when it comes to last-minute shopping.
Yes, you may need gifts wrapped and under the tree by tomorrow, but it’s not too late for overnight shipping. Plus, now that we’re down to the wire, some retailers are offering free or discounted overnight shipping. For example, order from Zappos before 4pm PST on Monday 12/23, select the free holiday shipping option, and your package will be on your doorstep the next day.
Local Delivery Service
There might be someone willing to personally deliver last-minute gifts to your doorstep. Big names like Amazon and eBay offer local delivery services in select areas. eBay Now serves San Francisco to San Jose, parts of New York City, Chicago and Dallas. They typically charge $5 per store, but have a free delivery promotion for the holidays.
In Store Pick-up
Look for online retailers with a “pick-up in store” option. That way you can order online and pick up at their brick-and-mortar location for free. Not only does it guarantee your item will be in stock, but you’re able to use coupon codes towards your order and get it almost immediately.
December 24 Shopping
You’ve waited this long, how about one more day? If your holiday schedule allows it, skip the malls tonight and go on December 24. Malls won’t be as crowded and many retailers start marking down items in anticipation of the after-Christmas sales, which starts first thing on the December 26.
This is the go-to last minute gift for good reason, but even with gift cards, you should do a price comparison before you shop. Look for a retailer offering some type of incentive or discount like Italian restaurant, BRAVO!, offering a $20 bonus card when you buy $100 in gift cards. Plus, eGift cards make it possible to print, email or even send gifts via social media without leaving your house.
