With all of life’s expenses, makeup and beauty products are probably last on your list of things to buy. Sure, foundation and eyeliner make you look like a million bucks, but in a decision between beauty products and groceries, groceries wins every time!
Even if you’re on a tight budget there are several ways you can score a hot deal on your favorite makeup — even designer brands like MAC and Lush! Read on to find out how to save money on makeup, plus a few of my favorite bargain-priced and discounted must-have beauty products.
Not sure if it’s time for new mascara or lip liner? Check out our helpful guide on makeup shelf life — and once you’ve settled on a few new beauty products (at a great price thanks to our tips below), try these long-lasting, easy beauty tips!
Tip #1: Check for dupes
A dupe is a cheaper alternative to an original product, and you can use the power of the web to search for dupes. You can find dupes via Pinterest, Instagram, and beauty blogs. DupeThat is a very popular Instagram account that features cheaper alternatives to those pricey beauty products you covet.
Tip #2: Raid the travel-sized section
If you’re interested in a product but not sure how well it will look on you, purchase the travel-sized version instead. Most retailers sell widely popular products in a travel or deluxe size, which is typically cheaper than its full-sized alternative.
Tip #3: Search Coupons.com for the latest deals

Coupons.com offers the best digital coupons, including online printable, social, mobile, and loyalty card promotions. It’s here you can find coupon codes for all your favorite makeup stores, including MAC Cosmetics, Ulta, Sephora, Sally Beauty, Philosophy, Origins, and more. The list goes on and on, and you’ll even find coupons for retail stores that carry beauty products like Macy’s, Kohl’s, Target, and Walgreens.
Right here on The Good Stuff is another great place to find exclusive coupon codes for your favorite grocery and retail brands. We even have a coupon for a free deluxe sample with every $25 you spend and a deluxe sample of New Advanced Night Cleanser with any $50 purchase from Estee Lauder with code PMCLEAN! (Exp. 5/15, offer includes free shipping & returns)
Tip #4: Earn freebies by recycling old makeup containers
Some popular makeup brands reward you for making an effort to recycle your old makeup containers by offering up freebies. For example, if you return six MAC makeup containers to a MAC counter or online, you’ll receive a free lipstick of your choice. Other makeup recycling programs include Kiehl’s “Recycle & Be Rewarded” program and LUSH’s “5-Pot Program.”
Tip #5: Get a beauty subscription box & check out makeup swaps
If you’re OK paying a monthly fee, beauty subscription boxes are a surefire way to get the most bang for your buck. Beauty subscription boxes like Glossybox, Birchbox, and COCOTIQUE contain a high dollar amount of product in every box for about $20 a month. Find a product you don’t like? Visit makeuptalk.com to swap those products for items on your wish list.
Tip #6: Sign up for email newsletters to receive a coupon
Retailers love newsletter subscribers. They love you so much for signing up that in exchange for receiving emails, most brands will offer a coupon for a percentage off your first order. If the newsletters get to be too much for you, simply unsubscribe later. But either way the discount is yours to keep.
Tip #7: Check the clearance section
Beauty companies have become better at stocking limited edition items. They are so well stocked, in fact, they’re usually overstocked and that item will pop up in the clearance section. It’s a smart idea to check the clearance section regularly to find your favorite products at a deep discount.
Tip #8: Sign up for rewards programs
Brands like Sephora, Sally Beauty, and Ulta have popular rewards programs that give you points every time you make a purchase. Cosmetic giant MAC Cosmetics has joined in, too, with the MAC Select Program. Redeem those points for money off your next order, free shipping, free makeup, and more.
Tip #9: Sleep on it
Sometimes it pays to wait just a little longer to treat yourself. Instead of rushing to click “Confirm Order,” put a product in your cart and go to bed. One of two things may happen:
- You’ll receive an email from the retailer reminding you about the items left in your cart and attached to that email should be a special discount code.
