February is full of reasons to celebrate. The month starts off with the pro football championship, then speeds into Mardi Gras, heads into a combined Valentine’s and President’s Day weekend, and culminates with the Oscars. Whew, what a ride!
And though celebrations like these often mean spending money, there are plenty of sales to help you out. It may be a short month, but it’s definitely not short on savings! In fact, I’ve found eight of the best things to buy in February, and every single one ties perfectly in with all these February holidays.
Learn when to save & when to spend: Here’s what to buy for every month
1. Snack foods
No Big Game party is complete without a hearty spread of snack foods! All the usual suspects will go on sale during the first week of February like soda, chips, dip, and chicken wings. Not surprising, it’s also one of the busiest days of the year for pizza delivery. Look for savings like BOGO pizzas, meal deals, and $5 pizzas.
Stock up on those snack foods and make a few of your own hearty appetizers with our football party food ideas! If pizza is a must, get Any Large Pizza for $11 at Pizza Hut (Exp. 3/31) or get 25% Off Regular Price Orders at Papa John’s (Exp 12/31)
If you’re wondering when to buy a new TV, get ready to browse your electronics aisle in February.
TV shopping peaks the week before the Big Game, so look for savings around 20 percent on brand name televisions, and don’t count out 4K UHD TVs. Now that the technology has been around awhile, we’re seeing price drops and very reasonable sale prices. Score!
3. Perfume & cologne
It’s a go-to gift for Valentine’s Day, and fortunately it’s on sale this month. Maximize your shopping spree with a free gift with purchase at department or beauty stores.
Gift sets are another way to maximize dollars spent. If your loved one has a signature scent, go with the bigger bottle. You typically only pay just a little more for twice as much!
Find a fun fragrance for your guy or gal at The Body Shop, Victoria’s Secret, or Bath & Body Works. Use our exclusive code to get 25% Off + Free Shipping on Your Order at Perfumania (Exp. 2/28).
4. Tax prep software
The sooner you file taxes, the sooner you can get a potential refund! Tax prep companies are rolling out their deals this month, so look for coupon codes and even printable coupons if you prefer in-person tax help.
5. Canned food

February is National Canned Food Month, making it a good time to restock your pantry with staples or refresh your disaster supply kit. Though canned foods have long shelf lives, they’re not indefinite, so you’ll want to keep rotating and replenishing your stock.
If it’s time to restock, grab this coupon and save 40 cents on four cans of Campbell’s® condensed soup.
Avoid those expensive red roses this month and choose a non-traditional flower like rainbow roses instead! Or, rather than the full dozen, go with half roses combined with filler flowers. Look for incentives when you choose early delivery like a discount or free chocolates.
You can also find coupon codes to save on online orders, like 20% Off Valentine’s Day Flowers & Gifts at 1800Flowers (Exp. 2/12) and 20% Off $39+ on Valentine’s Day Flowers and Gifts at ProFlowers (Exp. 2/13).

Oh la la! January was home to Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale, but they’re offering a substantial coupon code savings in February to kickstart Valentine’s Day shopping. Department store lingerie will also go on sale this month, so see if you can grab a coupon code for your favorite to save even more.

(These shows are first-come, first-served with limited seating, so be sure to arrive early!)
AMC Theatres’ Best Picture Showcase is a two-day event starting on Saturday, February 25 with “Moonlight,” “Lion,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Arrival,” and “Hidden Figures” playing on the big screen that day.
