How This Drugstore Line Zapped My Dry Hair Back to Life

Hey, curly girls, this review is for you! I’ve been on the hunt for a drugstore shampoo and conditioner that would give my hair more moisture and leave me with super soft strands.

Most shampoos I encounter leave my hair severely dehydrated and dull. To make matters worse, most conditioners don’t provide enough moisture to compensate for what the shampoo stripped away. I needed to try something new.

I got the opportunity to try the new Garnier Whole Blends Avocado Oil & Shea Butter line, which contains a shampoo, conditioner, and a nourishing mask — all in pursuit of happiness and hydration.

Garnier Whole Blends Avocado Oil & Shea Butter Extracts Nourishing Shampoo, $5.47 at Walmart

Garnier’s Whole Blends Nourishing Shampoo features ingredients like South African avocado oil, West African Shea Butter extract, argan oil, and aloe leaf juice to cleanse hair while restoring with moisture.

This shampoo was lightweight on my 3C curls, and not as drying as most of the shampoos I’ve encountered in the past few months. A little goes a long way with this shampoo: it creates a very rich, frothy foam. Even so, it rinses easily and leaves my hair with a light, creamy scent.

Garnier Whole Blends Avocado Oil & Shea Butter Extracts Nourishing Conditioner, $5.47 at Walmart

The Whole Blends Nourishing Conditioner contains the same ingredients as the shampoo, just in conditioner form.

Immediately I could feel a major boost of hydration. I always take note of slippage when I apply conditioner, and this formula gives my hair phenomenal slip, which means my hair will detangle with ease. The fragrance is the same as the shampoo, very light and creamy.

Garnier Whole Blends Avocado Oil & Shea Butter Extracts Nourishing Mask, $5.47 at Walmart

The Garnier Whole Blends Nourishing Mask is a great product to keep on hand when your hair experiences extreme dryness, especially after a coloring treatment or relaxer. The ingredients mimic the shampoo and conditioner, but the mask also contains sunflower seed oil and rosemary seed oil to deeply restore moisture.

Unlike the conditioner, when you apply it you should allow it to sit for about three minutes. To really get this hydrating mask deep into your strands, wrap your hair in a hot, damp towel. My curls were pillow soft after using this mask, and I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

To top it all off, Garnier Whole Blends products are paraben free and made with fair trade ingredients that give back. Now that’s a win-win in my book!

Garnier Whole Blends products are available at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Target and other mass merchant retailers.
