Hi, I’m Jeanette Pavini, Savings Expert for Coupons.com, here with your Money Minute. Today, spend a little time with us and we’ll show you how to get a free energy audit.
An energy audit can lead to big savings on your energy bill, but a professional audit can cost hundreds of dollars.
While a DIY audit may not be as thorough, it can still lead to big savings on your energy bill. Use the free home energy yardstick on energystar.gov to see how your energy usage compares to similar homes.
To calculate your score, you will need to know your home’s square footage and have your last 12 months of utility bills.
After you get your score, the site will provide tips for improving your energy efficiency, like sealing air leaks, which can reduce energy usage by 5 to 30 percent per year, according to energy.gov.
Check with your electric company. They may offer free energy audits to customers.
So why wait? Go to energystar.gov or call your utility company right now. That’s today’s Money Minute. See you next time!
