In honor of all the dads out there, we’ve nominated some of the Coupons.com family to share their favorite parts of being a dad, and some of their words of wisdom.
Our Coupons.com Sporty Dad is Javier, father of 2.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a dad?
A: It’s the tender hugs and love my boys, Giancarlo & Xavier give me when I pick them up from school or their nightly request to snuggle in their bed with them until they fall asleep.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your kids?
A: Dance. We have weekly “dance parties” that are on either Saturday or Sunday mornings shortly after we wake up. My wife will typically prepare a big breakfast and during that time I will play DJ to keep the kids occupied. That’s when the dance party in our PJs begins!
Q: How are you planning on celebrating Father’s Day?
A: I will be staying at the Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos with my wife and our boys. Friday and Saturday night smores, after homemade pizzas and burgers, will be on the menu. Our main activities will consist of daytime picnics on the beach as well as some poolside/Jacuzzi relaxation.
Q: What is your best Dad Joke?
A: Q: Why did the birdie go to the hospital? A: To get a tweetment.
Q: What piece of advice do you want to make sure your kids remember?
A: To be a leader not a follower.
Q: What is the best present you’ve received from your kids?
A: Besides their love, affection and nightly snuggles, it would be their spontaneous hand written cards saying things like, “you are the best daddy in the universe” and “I love you!”
Q:What’s the best piece of sportsmanship advice you want to share with your kids?
A: Respect the game and never brag or gloat.
Q: What sports do you enjoy with your children?
A: Soccer is the main sport in our house which is why we are regular season ticket holders to the San Jose Earthquakes, but we really are just major sport fans. Of course March Madness is the next best thing in our house but we always are glued to the TV during playoff time for the NBA, NHL & NFL.
Q: What do you most admire about how your children enjoy sports?
A: That it is not something they feel forced to do because mommy and daddy are trying to live vicariously through them. They truly love sports and being active outside rather than in the house on a couch or in their room glued to a smart phone, video game or tablet.
