Father’s Day Gift Guide: Foodie Dads

FathersDay_TGS_StaffPicks_FoodieDadv2

In honor of all the dads out there, we’ve nominated some of the Coupons.com family to share their favorite parts of being a dad, and some of their words of wisdom.

Our Coupons.com Foodie Dad is Chris, father of 2. He works in the Mountain View, California office, but is a UK transplant.

Q: What is your favorite part of being a dad?

A: Seeing my children grow up and discover new things on a daily basis.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your kids?

A: I really enjoy a nice, relaxing bike ride to a park (with a spot of lunch thrown in for good measure).

Q: How are you planning on celebrating Father’s Day?

A: I’ll be in Hawaii so hopefully I will have a relaxing day on the beach with lots of drinks being delivered.

Q: What is your best Dad Joke?

A: Whats red and can’t climb trees? A bus (Hint: In London buses are red)

Q: What piece of advice do you want to make sure your kids remember?

A: Take chances, believe in yourself and good things will happen — it’s about making your own luck.

Q: What is the best present you’ve received from your kids?

A: A Star Wars pancake maker — nothing like an X-wing fighter for breakfast with syrup.

Q: What’s your Dad Speciality?

A: A roast dinner is probably my true specialty — either beef or chicken with roast potatoes and all the trimmings.

Q: What do your kids help you make?

A: The kids loved Master Chef Junior so it has got more challenging. However, we make omelets together, as well as breakfast burritos and a variety of pasta dishes.

The picture was taken on Shrove Tuesday (or Pancake Day) this year. In England this is a big thing with races around the country and everyone making them for this one day. They are a thin pancake that you toss in the pan and traditionally add lemon and sugar.

American food has been a challenge in many ways – bacon is a whole different ball game (but still delicious) and bread is just so sweet. In fact, we had to buy a bread maker so we could get something we all enjoyed. The girls have adjusted quickly and it is so enjoyable seeing their tastes change as they grow older. I do think the best thing that America has really introduced to me is the food truck — I can never quite believe that anything so delicious can be cooked in a truck — we all love them, me a little too much!
