In honor of all the dads out there, we’ve nominated some of the Coupons.com family to share their favorite parts of being a dad, and some of their words of wisdom.
Our Coupons.com DIY Dad is Ron, father Coupons.com employee, Regan.
Q: Why did you nominate your dad?
A: My Dad is always there for me when I need his help or his advice. There’s never been a time that he hasn’t been ready and willing to help me in any way he can. Just recently, I made my 5th move in the past 7 years and he & my Mom were by my side, helping me to pack, clean, load, move, unpack, clean some more and organize. Their support of me is unwavering.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your dad?
A: Lately – it’s been wine tasting and doing projects at my new home. We also like going on bike rides or just watching our favorite TV show, The Big Bang Theory.
Q: How are you planning on celebrating Father’s Day?
A: My Dad lives in New Jersey, so we will Face Time and I’ll wish him a Happy Father’s Day as he spends it with my Mom
Q: What is your father’s best Dad Joke?
A: This is really bad – but the first thing that comes to mind, “You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you CAN NOT, under any circumstance, pick your friend’s nose”. He still likes to get mileage out of that one. Another one is when you say to him, “Surely – I can do that…”, he likes to say, “Who is Shirley???”
Q: What’s the best piece of advice your dad every gave you?
A: Pay yourself first. I’ve had a savings account and ATM card since I had my first job at 13. He’s told me that there will always be money to pay the bills, but I’ll never be able to save if I don’t pay myself first. Also – he’s taught me the value of a dollar and how to be frugal without being cheap!
Q: How are you like your dad?
A: We have similar sense of humor and don’t mind being the center of attention or the first one out on the dance floor!!! We both also like to save money and love a bargain! We like to do things right the first time, which can make working with us frustrating because we become so compulsive about even the tiniest of details that we drive ourselves and others crazy!
Q: What is the best gift you gave your dad?
A: If you ask my Dad, he would say me, but I know that he loves the iPad I gave him and he keeps all the cards/letters that I’ve ever sent him.
Q: What project is your Dad most proud of?
A: My Dad owned several Auto Parts stores when we were young and he loved working on cars. He would diagnose customers’ car problems and help them repair their cars. I think he would be most proud of how he used his experiences and knowledge to help other “Do-It-Yourselfers” He’s also done a bunch of projects at my house, from putting up lights to gardening to painting the garage that I know make him quite proud.
Q: What DIY skills have you learned from your Dad?
A: I learned how to use every day handyman tools like pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, saw, etc. I’m not afraid to tackle a home project if it’s something I think I can handle.
Q: What DIY expert (real or fictional) does your Dad liken himself to?
A: Mike Holmes from the show “Holmes on Homes”. He LOVES him and I think secretly would love to be on the show one day!!!
