Do fall’s falling temps have you feeling parched? These drugstore wonders will take you from dehydrated to darling in no time flat.
Instead of accepting all things itchy, flaky and chapped as an inevitable side effect of autumn’s arrival, this year, I’ve decided to side step dry skin and take a preemptive approach. By adding some nourishing proven winners into my daily beauty rotation, I’m combatting dry skin before old man winter even arrives. The best part? Each product costs $10 or less! Bye-bye alligator skin.
1. Yes to Carrots Hydrating Shower Gel ($8)
Infused with a mix of melons and carrot seed oil, this hydrating body wash soften skins thanks to a potent antioxidant combo found in (who knew) honeydew, leaving it with a soft scent and major glow.
2. eos Smooth Lip Balm Spheres ($3.29)
Sneak a peek in any of my purses and you’ll find I’ve stocked them all with one of eos brilliant bauble-like balms. Long-lasting, paraben-free and oh-so emollient, this balm is truly the bomb. At $3 a pop and with an array of flavors (Sweet Mint and Strawberry Sorbet are my faves), it’s easy to understand why stocking up is smart.
3. Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra-Enriched Hand Creme ($4.79)
My mom, a diabetic who suffers from chronically cracked heels, swore by the healing powers of this stuff, and it only took one use for me to see why. All business (i.e. no flowery fragrance or pretty packaging), what this grease-free moisturizer lacks in frills, it more than makes up for in overall effectiveness.
4. Boots Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz ($8.39)
When my face starts to feel more raisin-like than radiant, I look to this glorious organic toner for a quick spritz. A natural clarifier and redness-reducer, rosewater imparts a lovely suppleness to skin in distress. Budget-minded bonus: Even with daily use, the five-ounce bottle will last months.
5. Nature Made Burp-Less Fish Oil Liquid Softgels ($9.74)
Effortless beauty blooms from the inside out, and by upping my daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids, I’m giving my skin a much-needed boost. Why? Omega-3s, responsible for the health of cell membranes, can influence our skin-cells’ ability to hold water, which can mean moister, softer skin, if properly nourished.
6. Cococare Cocoa Butter Body Oil ($5)
When body lotion can’t cut it anymore, it’s time to turn to body oils. A die-hard fan of cocoa butter, this affordably priced oil leaves freshly showered skin insanely soft. The fact it works wonders on lessening the appearance of stretch marks doesn’t dock it any points in my book either.
7. e.l.f. Daily Moisture Stick ($6)
With its graphic packaging and super-soothing formulation, this multi-purpose balm feels like it should cost four times what it actually does. Made for eradicating those first-to-chap dry patches (think “your knuckles in January” dry), this clear gel-stick is packed with a host of anti-aging ingredients, including shea, avocado, aloe, cocoa and chamomile. An ideal mess-free option for your glove box, gym or travel bag.
