Kids love giving mom gifts for Mother’s Day, especially when it involves crafting! These egg carton flowers are one of my favorite handmade ways to say “I love you” to a special mother in your life. Of course, it could also be made for a grandmother, teacher, neighbor, friend, or anyone else that you want to say “thank you for being a mom” to!

They’re very easy to make, and use a recycled egg carton to create the “flowers” on the front of the canvas. After you buy your eggs and use them, simply set the cartons aside to use for this project. Kids are going to love painting the canvas and the egg carton flowers — and it will keep them busy for quite a while.
Savings tip: Wait until your local craft store or online retailer offers acrylic paint on sale (which happens quite often!).
Cheerful Egg Carton Flowers for Mom
- Canvas, any size (I used 9×12-inch)
- Acrylic paint in colors of your choice
- Egg carton
- 12 inches of ribbon
- Green pipe cleaners
- Craft glue or hot glue gun
Step 1: Choose any color and completely paint your canvas until fully covered. Let dry.
Step 2: Cut your egg carton into individual pieces. Each portion that holds an egg will become a flower.
Step 3: Cut each individual carton cup into a floral shape using scissors. The carton will naturally have two “petals” because of how it’s made, so you’ll want to shape those and then cut two more. Use your scissors for shaping. Keep going until all of your “flowers” are complete!
Step 4: But don’t throw the lid of the egg carton away! You can use it as a paint tray! Pour your selected colors into the lid.
Step 5: Paint all the egg carton flowers in the colors of your choice. Paint them until they’re completely covered and let dry.
Step 6: Take a bundle of pipe cleaners and tie them with ribbon. Snip off the ends so they fit on your canvas as stems. Glue them down.
Step 7: Glue your flowers down to the canvas around the stems, then glue buttons into the centers of the flowers. You can do this with craft glue or a hot glue gun. If you’re using a hot glue gun, Mom or Dad should supervise.
You’re done! Now wasn’t that easy? I hope you enjoyed it — and Happy Mother’s Day!
