One of the best things about fall is apples.
Sure, we can find these shiny, red fruits all year long in the grocery store, but I’m talking fresh-picked, plump delights.
Growing up in Wisconsin, fall meant it was time to visit the apple orchards and go apple picking with friends and family. The leaves would crunch under our sneakers as we raced from tree to tree, trying to see who could fill up their baskets with the most red, green, and yellow fruits. The air was crisp and tart, just like my favorite apple, the Granny Smith.
Even if you’re not in apple orchard country, you may be able to find a pick your own orchard or farm nearby. Check out Pick Your Own to see what’s available in your area, or shop at local farmer’s markets with these money-saving tips.
Once you’ve got a big basket of tangy, sweet, and juicy goodies, it’s time to bake them up into Mini Apple Pies! I love this recipe because it’s extra easy — instead of trying to bake a whole pie, you use crescent rolls as your dough and stuff each one full of yummy brown sugar, cinnamon, and — of course! — apples!
