I love celebrating the Fourth of July — our nation’s independence is such an important holiday! I love spending Independence Day with friends and family, especially at a barbecue.

Outdoor parties are my absolute favorite, with lots of food, drinks, and good times. The only downside to all this fun is flies or other insects in my beverages. I don’t know about where you live, but around here we have a lot of bugs that like to attend our celebrations, especially if there’s food!

There’s an easy way to keep these unwanted guests away and still enjoy your delicious drinks. These delightful drink covers are so easy to put together with perler beads, and the best part is that kids can help. They’re quite inexpensive and easy to put together, with just a few simple supplies.

Keep the 4th of July celebrations going with these red, white, and blue recipes, our summer barbecue menu for under $50, and a super delicious Blueberry Crunch No-Bake Cake recipe. Yum!

Supplies

Step 1: Start placing your beads

The round perler bead pegboard is essential for organizing perler beads in a circle. Start placing your perler beads on the pegboard, leaving seven spaces open in the center (so that your straw can be inserted in the center).

Step 2: Continue placing your beads

Continue forming your perler beads in a pattern, working your way out on the pegboard.

Each drink cover should be approximately nine rows of perler bead working outward; this will cover most glasses (though you’ll want to measure your glasses specifically to make sure they fit).

Step 3: Fuse your perler beads together

Once your pattern is done, place a hot iron on top of the beads with the ironing paper in between. Follow the instructions on the back of the perler bead packaging — and leave this job to the adults!

Repeat for each perler bead drink cover you’d like to make. Let your imagination take over when you create your patterns – and have fun with it!

Step 4: Show off your finished patriotic drink protectors!

Place these covers on top of your cup and insert a straw into the hole. You can now enjoy the party without having to guard your glass.

I hope you have an awesome 4th of July!
