1. Shop your stash
Open up your makeup bag and take a look at what’s inside. Do you have a lip color that’s perfect for your big day? A blush that’s the perfect finish? A foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly? Don’t replace these products!

2. “Long wear” is key
The most important beauty product for your wedding is foundation. I know purchasing HD foundation can be tempting, but it’s not necessary.
Search for foundations that are labeled “long wear,” “waterproof,” or “long lasting.” These products will stand the test of time through all the dancing, crying, and laughter. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some of my favorite long-wear foundations:

3. Use a damp sponge to apply foundation
Foundation will even out your skin tone, but depending on the time of year, you don’t want a heavy application. Use a damp sponge like the BeautyBlender to create a perfect, airbrushed look that will last all day. If you have blemishes that need to be covered, use concealer after you apply foundation.
4. Contouring for a high definition look
Contouring will give you the high definition look you want to achieve, without the actual high definition products. Make sure to blend any harsh lines so your makeup looks ethereal and effortless. I recommend using a powder palette to build depth. Here are some of my favorite contouring kits:

5. Primer is a life saver
Make sure you have a good eyeshadow, foundation, and lip primer. They prep the skin and create a clean canvas that makes makeup last longer, apply smoother, and gets colors to pop. Here are some of the best primers I’ve found for eyeshadow, foundation, and lips:
1. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, $36; 2. Urban Decay Cosmetics Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $20; 3. Lancome L’Absolu Rouge La Base, $30.50

7. Finish with a setting spray

8. Skip the glossy lips
Weddings are all about the kisses. Make sure your formula doesn’t kiss off on anyone else by using a lip stain or lipstick with a matte finish. Prep your lips with a primer to keep moisture in. Looking for a great matte lipstick? Check these out:

9. The time of year will affect your makeup
In the summer your skin tone may be a little darker, and you may want lighter makeup to endure the heat. In the winter, your skin tone will be lighter and you can comfortably wear heavier makeup. Be aware of the time of year so you can adjust accordingly!
10. Do a few trial runs
You’ll find it’s necessary to practice a few times before your wedding, so plan in advance. Apply a full face in your spare time and take photos under different kinds of light (candlelight, natural, daytime, fluorescent, and low light) to ensure your makeup looks great. Take photos with and without flash to make sure your photos don’t have a white cast (this is why we want to skip HD products).
11. Enjoy your day
You have all the essential tips you need to do your own makeup and look great. With enough time, preparation, and the right products you can be your own personal makeup artist. Have a beautiful day!diy / 11 Best DIY Wedding Makeup Tips for Your Big Day
