We all know the first words out of their mouths as they slide into the car after school is, “When’s dinner?”, so why not take a few moments of your time on the weekend to prep ahead for the busy week! Now you can have a few items in your car to satisfy them when they’re dramatically declaring they’re starving. No need to have hangry kids, toss them an energizing bite!
To get started, select a few of my favorite make-ahead kids’ snacks for the week, whip them up, and pre-package them so they’re ready to go for the busy week ahead.

Quick tip: Create a snack bar
Make a space in your fridge — on a shelf or in a bin — where you can stash pre-made snacks that the kids can help themselves to when they get home. Kids like being able to go and choose their own snack, so this is the perfect solution for both mom and the kiddos!
1. Almond Butter Dip With Apples & Granola
Makes 4 jars
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup almond butter
- 2 Tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granola
- 2 apples, cut into 1/4-inch thick slices
- Mix together yogurt, almond butter, honey, and cinnamon until blended.
- Place in mason jars, top with granola and add 5-6 apple slices.
- Keep cool until you serve.

2. Snack Necklace
Your little ones will have fun helping you string their favorite snacks, like pretzels, cereal, and candies, onto these necklaces. Keep them in a plastic bag until you head out the door, then let them wear their necklace at the park or where ever the day takes you.

3. Cherry-Nutella Pretzel Energy Bites
Cherries, Nutella, and pretzels form a sweet and salty bite to energize them for sports or homework. These are portable and your kiddos — and you! — can enjoy throughout the week.

4. Kids’ Favorite Snack Mix
Trail mix is a sweet and salty snack you can customize based on your family’s preferences. Make a big batch of trail mix and keep it in an air tight container. Before you head out, fill up portion-sized baggies to grab and go.

5. Butterfly Snack Bags
A simply decorated clothespin turns an ordinary plastic bag into a butterfly filled with your choice of snacks. Balance some healthy grapes with small cookies, or crackers with carrot sticks!
6. Blueberry-Oatmeal Muffins With Flaxseed
These oatmeal muffins stuffed with blueberries can be made on the weekend. Store them in the fridge and they’ll last all week — unless your kiddos finish them off beforehand!

7. Caramelized Honey Popcorn Balls
Popcorn is a great substitute for chips. It’s low in calories and high in fiber. Make it an on-the-go snack by forming popcorn balls with a bit of honey and vanilla. Stick a popsicle stick in the center and place each popcorn ball in a cupcake liner. Wrap them up in plastic and they’ll keep for several days.
