The baking season is upon us, and if you’re like me you’re ready to try new things and impress your holiday guests! After a while, though, the sugar intake can become a little over the top.
This year, along with some of my old baking favorites, I’m adding a good dose of easy baking recipes with sugar substitutes to my list. Ingredients like maple syrup and agave nectar, plus basics like lemon and applesauce can sweeten a dish without thickening your waistline. Check out some awesome recipes I found for this holiday season!

1. Paleo Pecan Pie

“Paleo” is a buzzword these days to describe a caveman-type diet. Even if you’re not a Paleo person, using some of their tricks in your favorite holiday recipes can be a great thing. This recipe uses raw honey and coconut sugar to sweeten the dessert in a healthier way.

These conversation-starting cupcakes are made with a sugar alternative. The baking aisle is full of alternatives that can make any recipe pop. Just follow the conversion table on the package to make sure you’re getting the right amount. While some don’t like artificial sweeteners, they can be a great way to cut sugar out and still get that sweet taste.

It does include a sugar substitute, but also includes a smile a mile wide when they learn it’s sugar-free!

Ahh, bread. A wonderful concoction of warmth and seasonal smells waft through the kitchen as we all get ready to indulge. One of my favorite food bloggers created a delicious Pumpkin Gingerbread that will rival any bread with sugar. She sweetened it with honey, maple syrup, and peanut butter, and served it up warm and fluffy. I cannot wait to try this at home or to make as gifts for friends!
