The cool autumn breeze is quite a bit more refreshing than the hot and humid summer weather, but the falling temperatures and low humidity of fall and winter can wreak havoc on your skin. To help you keep your skin soft and smooth all year long I’ve put together a list of the best fall and winter skin care tips.
Tip #1: Pre-cleanse your face
When the cold weather sets in, your face needs extra moisture. It’s important to add a moisturizing component to every step of your skincare routine, including cleansing. I love to add a pre-cleansing step to my fall and winter routines by removing makeup with a cleansing oil.
It may seem counterintuitive to cleanse your face with an oil, but cleansing oils are specifically designed to transform into a milky lather when mixed with water. Your skin will be left soft and clean, and you can always follow up with your normal cleanser to remove any excess oil.
If you’d like to try out an affordable cleansing oil, pick up a bottle of Garnier Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil.
Tip #2: Upgrade your moisturizers
Your skin needs extra moisture throughout the fall and winter months. I recommend upgrading your face and body moisturizers during the colder months. Look for formulas filled with nourishing oils that have a thick texture to lock in the moisture.
I love using The Body Shop’s emollient body butter to keep my skin soft and smooth, and the Hydrating Vitamin E Intense Moisturizer is the perfect evening facial moisturizer. The Body Shop always has amazing sales going on, so be sure to check out their most recent coupons before you shop.
The Body Shop just released Oils of Life™, a brand new skin care collection infused with 3 cold-pressed, natural seed oils. Grab yours today and receive free shipping on your order! (Exp. 10/31)
Tip #3: Add a moisturizing mask to your routine
On chilly days, your skin needs a quick boost of moisture. I recommend incorporating a moisturizing facial mask into your weekly routine to give your dry skin a little TLC.
When you’re selecting a mask, look for soothing ingredients such as honey, milk, oats, or yogurt. If you’d like to make your own mask a home, simply follow this easy recipe to create a moisturizing pumpkin mask using ingredients from your kitchen cupboard.
Tip #4: Don’t forget your hands & nails
When you’re renovating your beauty routine for fall and winter, don’t forget to pamper your hands and nails, too! Applying a luxurious hand cream twice a day can easily cure dry hands. I love keeping the Pacifica Island Vanilla Hand Cream in my purse for on-the-go moisturization.
It’s also a good idea to use a cuticle moisturizer like Julep’s Your Cuticles Look Thirsty Cuticle Creme at least three times a week to prevent brittle nails and peeling cuticles.
Tip #5: Nourish your skin from the inside out
While skincare regimens are important during the colder months, it’s also important to address the foods you eat, too. Creating a healthy lifestyle will enhance your physical health, but it can also work miracles on your skin.
For skin that shines from within, eat a balanced diet filled with healthy fats, fresh produce, and lots of water. In addition to nourishing your skin with good food, it’s also important to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle and create a sleep schedule that leaves you well rested. When your body feels good, your skin will look good!
Starting your morning with these 5 things healthy people do is a good way to get on track to a healthy lifestyle. Follow up your healthy morning routine with some of these foods proven to keep your hair, skin, and nails healthy.
