We’ve found 5 things healthy people do every morning that are sure to inspire you to be your healthiest you!

Drink a glass of water when you wake up

This seems like a no-brainer, but most of us reach for a mug of coffee first thing and hours go by before we take our first sip of water. Since most of us aren’t chugging water when we’re sleeping, we wake up dehydrated.

Drinking a glass of water when you first wake up will rehydrate you and flush toxins from your body that build up at night, and it also revs up your digestive system. It may take a few days to get used to drinking water before your coffee or tea, but feeling hydrated will give you extra energy that will make this habit stick.

Don’t like plain water? Add a squeeze of fresh lemon, which aids in digestion, balances your pH levels, and gives your immune system a boost.

Move your body

We’re not talking running a marathon, just a few simple stretches to get the blood flowing. This is a great way to ease your body into the day, and you’ll get your blood pumping and circulating without a major gym session. If you suffer from grogginess in the morning, this is a great way to feel alert very quickly.

Try this. Find a free “Burst Workout” on YouTube and try it out! Most workouts are just 5-7 minutes long and can burn more fat than a 30-minute cardio session!

Eat a healthy breakfast

While you’ve been sleeping, so has your metabolism. Eat breakfast within an hour of waking up and your metabolism will wake up too. If you skip breakfast, your body thinks it needs to conserve energy, and your metabolism slows down. If you want to burn more calories, rev up your metabolism by eating and getting your digestive system moving.

Eating a healthy breakfast also helps to regulate your blood sugar levels, and this will keep you from bingeing and will stabilize your mood. Remember that a healthy breakfast does not include grabbing a doughnut. You need to balance protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates. Try a smoothie with avocado or nut butter, hemp seeds, and fruits and veggies as a quick way to get nutrients into your body in the morning. An omelet with fresh veggies makes another great breakfast choice, and oatmeal with nuts and berries is a healthy option for breakfast.

Practice gratitude

Carve out 2-3 minutes to express gratitude every morning. Start your day by thinking of one or more things that you’re grateful for. This morning practice can increase your happiness, and beginning the day with a positive outlook can shape the way the rest of your day unfolds. Write a few things in a journal or just sip a warm mug of tea while remembering everything you’re grateful for.

Track your progress. Try writing your daily gratitude on sticky notes, then paste them around your room or bathroom. Within weeks, you’ll be surrounded by signs of your favorite things.

Breathe

You don’t need to be a yogi to get in some deep breaths every morning. A few minutes of deep breathing relaxes your mind, slows your heart rate, and lowers your stress levels. Beginning your day with a clear mind allows you more focused concentration and productive working.

You may get the added benefit of clearing blocked nasal passages and relieving back pain. There are many different breathing techniques out there, and you’ll have to choose one that works for you.

Meditation made easy. Discover the simple power of breathing by setting a timer for just one minute, then trying to breathe slowly and consciously until the timer goes off. You can do anything for one minute, and will reap huge rewards from even tiny moments of mindfulness.

Breathing exercises are a great way to calm yourself down and gain focus. Check out these other great ways to melt away stress and add some peace to your day.
