These days the average hotel room comes stocked with a blow dryer, a bathrobe, and little containers of shampoo and conditioner. Those are the things you see at check-in, but it turns out the hotel may be hiding a much bigger stash of freebies and loaners behind the counter.
Not all hotels offer the items on this list, but it’s worth asking the next time you’re faced with a travel nightmare like a missing toiletry bag. (That you now remember seeing on the bathroom counter as you ran out the door for the airport!)

This has to be one of the most forgotten travel items. Fortunately, if you arrive late and can’t imagine going to bed without a good brushing, your hotel has likely got you covered. Even hotels without an extensive lending library of items typically have a stash of toothbrushes on hand.
2. Yoga mats & hand weights
You don’t necessarily have to go to the gym to get your workout in. Some hotels will rent out yoga mats, hand weights, and other workout accessories you can take to your room for a private workout.
If you’re planning to stay at a Hyatt hotel, be sure to ask about their YogaAway program, which includes nine 45-minute in-room yoga routines! Don’t forget to grab your Hyatt coupon code before you book, too.
3. Curling or straightening iron
It’s expected that a hotel will have a blow dryer on hand, but it turns out they may be able to help out with all your hair styling needs. This is a good tip when traveling abroad! Even with a power adaptor, your heat styling device may not survive the foreign outlet.
4. Phone chargers
A forgotten phone charger can quickly send you into a panic. But before you run out to the nearest electronics store, check with the front desk. They may have a variety of chargers for your phone and even your computer. Newer electrical outlets in hotels often include a plugin for USB cords, giving you another option to power your devices.
If you’re staying at a Marriott, you may not even need to grab a charger from the front desk. In 2014 Marriott introduced wireless charging stations for Apple, Android, and Windows devices in the greatroom lobbies of select hotels. Pair this smart innovation with smart savings by using Marriott coupons when you book your stay!
5. Extended toiletries
Okay, no surprise, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and a shower cap are waiting in your room. But some hotels stock an expanded list of toiletries like nail polish remover, shaving cream, or contact lens solution.
Upscale hotels may even have a variety of shampoo and conditioners to choose from if the supplied brand doesn’t work for you. Bottom line, always check with the front desk before you run to the corner store to pay a premium for forgotten toiletries.
Nightlights or even additional reading lamps may be available at certain hotels. It’s the perfect solution if your kid’s afraid of the dark or you’re worried about stubbing your toe on the way to the bathroom.
7. Beach towels
Hotels don’t want you to take their bathroom towels to the pool or beach, so if there’s water nearby they usually have beach towels on hand. Call ahead and ask before trying to stuff bulky beach towels into your luggage.
8. Toys & board games
Some hotels have a secret stash of board games, crayons, or bath toys to keep kids happy. Some especially kid-friendly hotels will even have a welcome gift for your little ones.
If your little one loves to build, why not create and bring this DIY Lego® travel box along with you? The compact design fits easily into a suitcase, and the multiple compartments ensure each brick stays put — and doesn’t get underfoot!
The right pillow can make or break a good night’s sleep. Some hotels provide a pillow menu, so whether you like pillows firm or with feathers, you’ll get the good night’s sleep you’re after.
Many boutique and five-star hotels offer a pillow menu, and it never hurts to ask after one. The Conrad Hotels and Resorts is one such chain that offers a wide selection of pillows, and since its owned by Hilton you may also be able to save on your stay with a Hilton promo code!
Not all hotel rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, but you may be able to request one. This isn’t always a free rental, you may need to pay a per day fee, but it could be worth it if it means you get to save your leftovers!
