This week’s Tuesday News Day is all about saving. Saving on high-end fashion, saving on Thanksgiving, saving on shipping, and saving at the pump. Plus, you’ve got a new excuse to bargain shop! Turns out, you may just be genetically programmed to love a good deal.

Amazon takes a walk down the runway.
Amazon
Amazon is honing in on the fashion market. They just opened up a 40,000 square-foot fashion photography studio. Fashion is one of the Amazon’s fastest-growing businesses. While it’s mostly speculation at this point, we can expect to see changes in the future, which may include dedicated high-end fashion areas on the site, possible designer collaborations, and innovation in mobile and social shopping.

Do you possess the bargain-shopping gene?
Bargain shopping
Does a sale make you giddy? Well that might just be genetics at work. We all get a little blast of dopamine (a feel-good neurotransmitter) when we see a good deal. But, while the majority of us are able to flush the dopamine before making our purchasing decision, 1 in 4 have the COMT gene. That means dopamine sticks around a little longer and you are more likely to snag up those good bargains.

Every penny counts when it comes to pumping gas!
Gas prices
Gasoline prices will be an average of 11¢ cheaper this year, according to a forecast from the Energy Information Agency. Meaning American drivers are collectively saving $40 million a day at the pump compared to last year. If the forecast pans out, then gas prices should stick around an average of $3.30 a gallon for the rest of the year.

    • We look at TV and the media for our entertainment and news; it makes sense that we can look there for a title for our essay on how media affects our society. American Idol Nation, could work for this essay. Or, if you were writing an essay on the effect of social networking sites on teenagers, your title could be A Social Disease. For example, essays on human trafficking or other disturbing crimes will be engaging enough when simply stated. For example, Trafficking is in your backyard, is a catchy title even though it simply states the issue, because the issue itself is interesting. Adding the location also makes it personal. If your essay is on Paula Deen and the current racial climate in America, then Deen Whips Up a Meal In Uncle Tom Cabin, combines the subject with a recognizable book or saying. Everyone knows that calling someone an Tom, is calling them a racist. But it important to use these correctly and appropriately. In this example, the correlation doesn apply fully since Paula Dean is white and Uncle Toms are typically people who are racist against members of their own race, but you get the idea. Creating great essay titles is all about making connections to the world around you.How to Custom Order Shoes Online

  1. I’ve never shopped on Thanksgiving night or Black Friday (though I have been tempted to!). I just don’t have the endurance to stand in line for hours for a small-window deal. But I would love to snag that free shipping!

  2. I’m always more likely to purchase from a retailer offering free shipping. Especially when I get email promotions with free shipping – it’s almost a guarantee I’ll buy something.

  3. Very interesting to read about Amazon’s step into the fashion industry. I love all of the coats in the image you posted. I’ve always loved shopping on Amazon but haven’t bought a lot of clothes on there. Probably will change now that they are focusing more on it and I have a Prime account now.

  4. Thanks for all the great tips. I also love online shopping, it is so much more convenient. Especially with free shipping.
