We’re celebrating Mother’s Day not just today but all month long. One great thing to do this May is enjoy some bonding time with a mother-daughter at-home spa day.
Start with a mani-pedi. Soak your feet in a bowl of lavender honey milk soak. Make it fancy by adding a handful of flowers in the bowl. Soak 15 to 30 minutes. Use a grapefruit sugar scrub to remove dead skin. Finish by painting each other’s nails. Our milk soak is made with milk, Epsom salts, honey and olive oil. It draws toxins out, nourishes and relaxes. You can take a bath in this too! The dried lavender adds a pretty scent to the soak.
Ingredients: 1 gallon whole milk, 2 cups of Epsom salts, 1 cup of honey, 1/3 cup of olive oil, 2 tablespoons dried lavender
Directions: Mix ingredients in saucepan on medium heat. Pour mixture into warm bathwater. I suggest soaking for at least 15 minutes, 30 tops, or the natural acid in the milk could irritate your skin. Place in a jar. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
Make homemade face masks. Use ingredients from your kitchen for masks. Mix together 1 cup yogurt, ½ cup oatmeal and 1 tablespoon honey. Place on your faces for 10 minutes. Place cucumbers on your eyes to soothe puffiness while letting the masque set.
Beautify your lips. No mother-daughter at-home spa day is complete without a makeover. Our pink lemonade lip gloss is super easy to make. Take a single serving packet of your favorite powdered drink and mix with petroleum jelly. The kids will want to make a batch to give to their friends.
Ingredients: 1 cup Vaseline, 1 single serving Crystal Light Pink Lemonade packet
Directions: Place Vaseline in a microwave bowl. In 30-second intervals soften the jelly but do not completely melt. Stir in the packet of pink lemonade. If needed, soften a little more. Spoon into lip gloss containers and allow to cool.
Have a Mother’s Day snack fest. All that pampering will leave you hungry. We have a menu of interactive dishes you will have fun cooking and eating together during your mother-daughter at-home spa day.
- Have fun rolling out pizza dough and creating mini pizzas. Top with your favorite meat and veggies.
Ingredients: 1 roll Pillsbury pizza,1 cup shredded chicken, 2 cups mozzarella cheese, barbecue sauce, fresh veggies – red peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, corn, pepperoni, bacon or ground beef
Directions: Heat oven to 400 degrees. Divide dough into four balls. Lay out a sheet of parchment paper. Sprinkle with flour and roll the dough out as thin as possible in a circle. Brush with sauce and top with chicken and veggies. Sprinkle cheese on the top. Bake for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Our strawberry quinoa salad is topped with a lemon honey vinaigrette. Cook the quinoa in chicken stock instead of water for added flavor. Make ahead and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Ingredients: 1 bag mixed greens, 1 cup cooked quinoa, 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup toasted almond slivers, 2 tablespoons basil, thinly sliced, 2 ounces goat cheese (optional), 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, 2 teaspoons minced shallot, 1 tablespoon honey, salt & pepper
Directions: Place lemon juice, olive oil, honey, salt and pepper in blender. In a bowl layer the mixed greens with the quinoa. Top with strawberries, almonds, basil and cheese. Toss with vinaigrette.
- End your mother-daughter at-home spa day on a sweet note with a chocolate fondue bar. Bake an angel food cake in a 9×13 pan and cut into squares. We added a tablespoon of espresso and a cup of chopped chocolate. Short on time? Buy a pre-made cake from your local grocery store. Serve with cut up fruit like strawberries, raspberries or apples.
Ingredients: 1 cup heavy cream, cup chocolate chips, 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions: Place chocolate in a bowl. Warm heavy cream in saucepan or microwave. Pour over chips and let stand 10 minutes. Stir in vanilla until well combined. Make ahead and soften in microwave prior to serving.
