Easy Summer Treats for Kids

Nom, nom, nom—summer break means plenty of time for sweet treats, and we have some delicious ideas for snacks that your kids can help with. Frozen, blended, fruit, chocolate—take your pick, we have it all. Here are some goodies that your family can enjoy all summer long.

Orange Cream Bars

This is a classic. Combine one part freshly squeezed orange juice with one part vanilla-flavored milk. Pour into molds and freeze solid. Save $1.25 on any 2 Silk Pure Almond Half Gallons.

Fruit Tacos

Dessert can be healthy, especially during summer when there’s a wide variety of fruit at great prices. For a fruit taco, spread a small tortilla with yogurt and add bite-sized pieces of your favorite summer fruit. Sprinkle with chopped nuts or graham cracker crumbs to give it a little crunch.

Pudding Pops

This is so easy, your kids can do it by themselves. Stick a Popsicle stick through the lid of a personal-sized pudding, freeze and eat. You can use this technique for yogurt, too.

Frozen S’Mores

Melt chocolate in a double broiler and dip graham crackers, coating both sides. Let them cool completely on waxed paper. Defrost ice cream until spreadable (we suggest Rocky Road) and sandwich it between two crackers. For an added touch, sprinkle coconut or mini marshmallows while the coated crackers are cooling.

Dessert Pizza

Peanut Butter and Banana Agave Smoothie

Here’s a healthy treat we found on the C&H website.  Combine peanut butter, a banana and agave nectar with vanilla yogurt, vanilla extract, milk and ice cubes. Blend together and drink.

Fancy Cubes

Here’s the perfect way to cool off with a refreshing summer mocktail. Put a small berry in each pocket of an ice cube tray, fill halfway with water or lemonade and freeze for an hour. Then fill the tray completely and freeze solid.
