Best Buys for June

Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 20th, but when it comes to summer sales, the bargains have already begun. Here are some of the best ways to save in June.

  • Fishing. Most states have free fishing days when you don’t need a license, and many coincide with National Fishing & Boating Week the first week of June. Celebrate by attending fishing derbies and festivals across the country. Find activities and free fishing days in your state.
  • National Parks. June 9th is National Get Outdoors Day, which means more than 100 national parks are waiving their entrance fees. If you’re 62 or older, you can pay just $10 for a lifetime pass to over 2,000 National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands.
  • Sunscreen. Protect your skin this month with sunscreen sales and coupons. The American Academy of Dermatology says it takes one ounce (that’s a full shot glass) worth of sunscreen to cover the exposed areas on the average body.
  • Dairy. June is National Dairy Month, and usually around this time there is a surplus in milk production, so expect savings in the dairy aisle. Did you know you can freeze butter? Stock up while it’s on sale, wrap it in foil or an airtight bag and store it in the freezer for up to four months.
  • Father’s Day. Gifts for dad go on sale this month including tools, menswear, and golf gear. Shop early in the month, so you can take advantage of coupon codes and still get your package on time.

Final Word: June marks the beginning of summer sales. Toward the end of the month, look for clearance sales on anything “Dad and Grads” related—grilling and barbecue accessories, paper products and party supplies, to name a few. All perfect for 4th of July as well.
